In a phone conversation on Monday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed regional developments, focusing on Israels violent assaults in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, as well as the US strikes in Yemen.
Fidan, citing his participation in a recent Arab-Islamic Contact Group meeting in Cairo, underscored the need for Islamic countries to increase attention toward the suffering of Palestinians.
Araqchi condemned Israels aggressions against Gaza and Lebanon, as gross violations of ceasefire agreements. He urged the international communityespecially Islamic and regional nationsto intervene immediately to halt Israels crimes.
He further condemned Israels military escalation in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and Lebanon, stressing the need for regional cooperation to prevent further instability and aggression against Islamic nations.
Addressing internal matters in Turkey, Araqchi reaffirmed Irans stance, stating that the countrys developments are a domestic issue and expressing confidence in Turkish authorities to manage them in the nations best interests.
During the call, Fidan congratulated Araqchi on Nowruz and reiterated Turkeys commitment to diplomatic solutions for regional and global conflicts.
The discussion also covered Israels previous ceasefire agreements with Hamas and Hezbollah. Despite an earlier truce with Hamas in January, which ended without Israel achieving its objectives, Tel Aviv has refrained from engaging in talks for a second phase of the deal.
Meanwhile, Israel resumed airstrikes on Gaza, violating a ceasefire and prisoner-exchange agreement that lasted nearly two months. Similarly, despite agreeing to a ceasefire with Hezbollah in November, Israel has continued near-daily attacks on Lebanon.
Araqchi also condemned continued US military operations in Yemen, warning that such actions could escalate tensions across the region. He urged regional countries to intensify efforts against external threats targeting Muslim nations.
On March 15, US airstrikes killed 53 people, according to Yemeni officials. The attacks, the first under President Donald Trumps administration, followed Yemeni forces renewed operations against Israeli shipping in solidarity with Palestinians.
In a further escalation, the US has announced plans to deploy a second aircraft carrier, the USS Carl Vinson, to the region.
