TEHRAN (Tasnim) The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador of the Netherlands to Tehran in protest at the baseless accusations the European country has made against the Islamic Republic.

The director general of the Iranian Foreign Ministrys West Europe department had a meeting with Dutch ambassador Emiel de Bont on Friday and conveyed Tehrans strong protest over the groundless accusations the intelligence agency of the Netherlands has leveled against Iran.

It came after the Dutch intelligence agency accused Iran of being behind two assassination attempts in Europe.

The Dutch general intelligence agency, known as the AIVD, alleged in its annual report published on Thursday that two men were arrested in June 2024 in the Dutch town of Haarlem after an assassination attempt there on an Iranian residing in the country.

"The two assassination attempts fit into the modus operandi that Iran has been using for years: using criminal networks in Europe to silence purported opponents of the regime. Based on intelligence, it is likely that Iran is responsible for the two liquidation attempts," the AIVD claimed.

In the meeting with the Dutch envoy at the Iranian Foreign Ministry of Friday, the Iranian diplomat rejected the baseless allegations raised against Iran in the annual report of the AIVD.

Alireza Yousefi also dismissed the allegations that the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry of the Netherlands has made against Iran and objected to the European countrys decision to summon the Iranian ambassador for the ridiculous reason of suspicion or probabilities that the AIVD has cited to accuse Iran.

Its a pity that the diplomacy body of the Netherlands has leveled baseless accusations against Iran simply on the basis of speculations and suspicion infused by the security organizations of that country and the Zionist regime and has subsequently summoned Irans ambassador according to such ridiculous lie, Yousefi told the Dutch envoy.

The director general of the Iranian Foreign Ministrys West Europe department denounced the Dutch Foreign Ministrys move as a flagrant and unacceptable attempt to shift the blame, saying the country that must be held accountable for sheltering the criminals and notorious terrorists is in no moral position to level accusations against the others.

He finally urged the Netherlands to adopt a professional and respectful stance on the bilateral relations with Iran, avoid making false and unfounded accusations, stop providing supports for the Zionist regime, and play a constructive role in the West Asia developments.

The Dutch ambassador said he would convey Irans protest to his government.
