French Foreign Ministers claim that Iran is on the cusp of developing a nuclear weapon is simply absurd, Esmaeil Baqaei said in a post on his X account on Friday.
This false statement, coupled with the Ministers open threats to reimpose sanctions, reinforces the suspicion that France's nagging posture risks evolving into a spoiling role. That won't add any credit to France and its status in Europe and globally, the spokesperson added.
In comments on April 28, French Foreign Minister Jean-Nol Barrot claimed that Iran is on the cusp of developing a nuclear weapon.
He also accused Iran of having gone beyond the boundaries it committed under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In a letter to the UN secretary general on April 29, the Iranian UN ambassador dismissed the unsubstantiated and politically motivated claims that the French foreign minister has made against Irans peaceful nuclear program.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has never pursued nuclear weapons, and its defensive doctrine has not been changed. Iran unequivocally rejects all weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), including nuclear arms. As a founding member of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), Iran remains fully committed to its obligations under the treaty, the envoy stated.
