TEHRAN, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi departed Tehran on Sunday for Islamabad, where he is scheduled to hold talks with senior Pakistani officials on bilateral and regional issues, Iran's Foreign Ministry said.
The discussions will cover economic and trade cooperation, border security, and developments in the region and beyond, the ministry said in a statement.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Saturday that Araghchi will also travel to India later this week as part of an official visit.
Araghchi's regional tour comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam, in Indian-controlled Kashmir, on April 22.
Speaking to state news agency IRNA on Sunday, Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri-Moghaddam described the Islamabad visit as a key step toward establishing a roadmap for sustained cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.
He added that Araghchi would also seek to explore options for easing tensions between India and Pakistan, citing Iran's friendly ties with both nations.
