In a statement on Friday, Esmaeil Baqaei denounced the Zionist regimes aerial strikes and drone attacks on the residential areas of Dahiyeh neighborhood of Beirut on the eve of the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday as a flagrant act of aggression against Lebanons territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Decrying the Zionist regimes recurrent acts of aggression against Lebanon amid the United Nations Security Councils silence and inaction, the Iranian spokesman reminded the guarantors of the ceasefire, including the US and France, of their direct responsibility.
The Zionist regime is definitely unable to proceed with lawbreaking and violation of the UN Charter such heedlessly without the green light given and the overt and covert supports provided by the US, he added.
Baqaei also reminded the UN Security Council of its responsibility to counter the Israeli regimes violation of peace and acts of aggression, calling on the UNSC to take practical measures to fulfill its duties in accordance with the UN Charter.
The continuation of rogue actions by the Zionist regime in the region and its acts of aggression and occupation against Lebanon and other Islamic countries lay bare the fact that the only way to safeguard the national sovereignty and independence of the countries is to strengthen their defense power and dignified resistance against Israel, the spokesman stated.
The statement came after a series of Israeli strikes targeted Beiruts southern suburbs on the eve of Eid al-Adha.
The attack on Thursday was the fourth time the Israeli regime has bombed Beirut since a ceasefire with Hezbollah went into effect in November.
The Zionist regime has violated the ceasefire on a near-daily basis for seven months, according to the Lebanese government led by President Joseph Aoun, Arab nations and rights groups. Aoun has recently appealed to the United States and France to rein Israel in.
Aoun, in a statement on Thursday after the strikes, voiced firm condemnation of the Israeli aggression and flagrant violation of an international accord on the eve of a sacred religious festival.
