Recent tensions in the Strait of Hormuz have dashed the already fragile hopes for de-escalation between Washington and Tehran. Renewed brinkmanship is shrinking the narrow space for diplomacy while amplifying risks that extend far beyond the two countries involved.
As a conduit for roughly one-fifth of the world's oil supply, the strait serves as a shared maritime lifeline -- not a stage for geopolitical games. Heightened tensions increase the risks of miscalculation and directly threaten both regional and global stability.
Confrontation and coercion offer no genuine security. The United States, who started the war at the first place, should work with Iran to act responsibly: strictly observe ceasefire commitments, refrain from actions that inflame tensions, and help create conditions for the safe and normal flow of transit through the strait.
